# 17. Mobile App Performance Profiling: Flipper, React Native DevTools & Memory Leak Detection

> React Native Notes by Rishabh - Topic 17

### 1. Identifying the 3 Deadly Mobile Bottlenecks 🔍

1. **JS Thread Stutter:** Unnecessary re-renders in deep component trees.
2. **UI Thread Drops:** Complex view hierarchies causing excessive native measure/layout passes.
3. **RAM Memory Leaks:** Unsubscribed event listeners, retained uncompressed image bitmaps.

---

### 2. High-Performance FlashList Optimization (Shopify FlashList ⚡)

```tsx
import { FlashList } from "@shopify/flash-list";
<FlashList
    data={lessons}
    renderItem={({ item }) => <LessonCard lesson={item} />}
    estimatedItemSize={80} // Mandatory for pre-allocating recycling pools!
    keyExtractor={(item) => item.id}
/>
```
*View Recycling: Naye native views create karne ke badle screen se bahar gaye views ko recycle karta hai (5x faster than FlatList!).*

---

### 3. Master Comparison Matrix

| Profiling Tool | Target | Metric Analyzed |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| **React DevTools Profiler**| JS Thread | Component render duration & re-render triggers |
| **Android Studio Profiler / Xcode Instruments**| Native CPU & RAM | Native Heap Allocations, GPU Frame Renderers |
| **Hermes Memory Profiler**| JS Heap | Heap snapshots & detached DOM/Component retainers |

---

### 4. Interview Ke 3 Sawal Is Topic Se

1. **FlatList me `getItemLayout` pass karne ka kya benefit hota hai?** -> FlatList ko items ka layout dynamic measure karne ki zaroorat nahi padti; direct index calculation se instant scroll-to-index perform hota hai.
2. **Images mobile RAM memory kaise consume karti hain?** -> Disk par 100KB JPEG memory me decode hone par uncompressed RGBA bitmap ban jati hai ($W \times H \times 4$ bytes = 4K image takes 33MB RAM!). `react-native-fast-image` resize downsampling use karta hai.
3. **`why-did-you-render` library development me kaise help karti hai?** -> Unnecessary props mutations ki wajah se hone wale waste renders ko console me log karti hai.

---
**Next Topic:** 18. Over-The-Air (OTA) Live Updates with EAS Update / CodePush Architecture
