# 18. Authentication Architecture with Auth.js (NextAuth v5) & JWT Sessions

### 1. Auth.js (NextAuth v5) Fullstack Architecture 🔐

NextAuth v5 App Router aur Edge Middleware ke sath 100% compatible Universal Authentication framework hai:

```
[ Google / GitHub OAuth ] ➔ [ Auth.js Handler ] ➔ [ JWT Encrypted Session Cookie ]
                                    ⬇
        ┌───────────────────────────┴───────────────────────────┐
        ▼                                                       ▼
[ Server Components (auth()) ]              [ Edge Middleware (auth()) ]
(Direct session check with 0ms DB load!)    (Instant Edge Route Protection)
```

---

### 2. Universal Setup: `auth.ts`

```typescript
// auth.ts
import NextAuth from "next-auth";
import GitHub from "next-auth/providers/github";
import Credentials from "next-auth/providers/credentials";
import { PrismaAdapter } from "@auth/prisma-adapter";
import { db } from "@/lib/db";
export const { handlers, auth, signIn, signOut } = NextAuth({
    adapter: PrismaAdapter(db),
    session: { strategy: "jwt" },
    providers: [
        GitHub({ clientId: process.env.AUTH_GITHUB_ID, clientSecret: process.env.AUTH_GITHUB_SECRET }),
        Credentials({
            async authorize(credentials) {
                // Validate email & password with Argon2...
                return { id: "1", name: "Rishabh", email: "rishabh@boost.in", role: "ADMIN" };
            }
        })
    ],
    callbacks: {
        async jwt({ token, user }) {
            if (user) token.role = (user as any).role;
            return token;
        },
        async session({ session, token }) {
            if (session.user) (session.user as any).role = token.role;
            return session;
        }
    }
});
```

---

### 3. Checking Session in Server Components

```tsx
// app/dashboard/page.tsx (Server Component)
import { auth } from "@/auth";
import { redirect } from "next/navigation";
export default async function DashboardPage() {
    const session = await auth();
if (!session?.user) {
        redirect("/api/auth/signin");
    }
return <h1>Welcome back, {session.user.name} ({session.user.role})</h1>;
}
```

---

### 4. Master Comparison Matrix

---

### 5. Interview Ke 3 Sawal Is Topic Se

1. **NextAuth v5 me `getServerSession` ke badle universal `auth()` helper kyu introduce kiya gaya?** -> Taaki exact same `auth()` function Server Components, Server Actions, Route Handlers aur Edge Middleware me seamlessly bina parameters pass kiye kaam kar sake.
2. **JWT Session me sensitive role permissions update hone par instant sync kaise karte hain?** -> Session trigger update (`useSession().update()`) call karke ya JWT expiration ko short rakh kar.
3. **CSRF protection Auth.js me kaise handle hoti hai?** -> Double Submit Cookie pattern aur encrypted CSRF tokens ke zariye automatically saare mutation requests secure hote hain.
