# 16. Route Handlers (route.ts): Building REST API Endpoints with NextResponse

### 1. Route Handlers (`app/api/.../route.ts`) 🌐

Webhooks (Stripe / GitHub), Mobile App APIs ya third-party integrations ke liye custom REST HTTP endpoints banana:

```typescript
// app/api/webhooks/stripe/route.ts
import { NextRequest, NextResponse } from "next/server";
export async function POST(req: NextRequest) {
    try {
        const rawBody = await req.text();
        const signature = req.headers.get("stripe-signature");
// Verify webhook signature...
return NextResponse.json({ received: true }, { status: 200 });
    } catch (error: any) {
        return NextResponse.json({ error: error.message }, { status: 400 });
    }
}
```

---

### 2. Supported HTTP Methods

Route handlers me hum named exports use karte hain:
*   `GET`, `POST`, `PUT`, `PATCH`, `DELETE`, `HEAD`, `OPTIONS`.

### 3. Master Comparison Matrix

### 4. Interview Ke 3 Sawal Is Topic Se

1. **Same folder ke andar `page.tsx` aur `route.ts` dono ek sath kyu nahi ho sakte?** -> Route collision conflict se bachne ke liye; `page.tsx` HTML UI serve karta hai jabki `route.ts` raw endpoint serve karta hai.
2. **`GET` Route Handler kab static cache hota hai?** -> Agar usme koi dynamic function (`cookies()`, `headers()`, `NextRequest` param) use na ho, toh Next.js use build time par static JSON banakar cache kar deta hai.
3. **Route handler me streaming response (jaise AI LLM chat tokens) kaise bhejte hain?** -> Web standard `ReadableStream` use karke chunked stream `new Response(stream)` return ki jaati hai.
