# 11. Form Validation with useFormState, useFormStatus, and Zod Schemas

### 1. Production Form Architecture (Zod + Server Action + React Hooks 🛡️)

```typescript
// app/actions/auth.ts
"use server";
import { z } from "zod";
const RegisterSchema = z.object({
    email: z.string().email("Invalid email address"),
    password: z.string().min(8, "Password must be at least 8 chars")
});
export type FormState = { errors?: { email?: string[]; password?: string[] }; message?: string };
export async function registerUser(prevState: FormState, formData: FormData): Promise<FormState> {
    const validated = RegisterSchema.safeParse(Object.fromEntries(formData.entries()));
if (!validated.success) {
        return { errors: validated.error.flatten().fieldErrors };
    }
// Save to DB...
    return { message: "Account created successfully! 🎉" };
}
```

---

### 2. Client Form Component with `useFormState` & `useFormStatus`

```tsx
// components/RegisterForm.tsx
"use client";
import { useFormState, useFormStatus } from "react-dom";
import { registerUser, FormState } from "@/app/actions/auth";
function SubmitButton() {
    const { pending } = useFormStatus(); // Tracks parent form pending state!
    return (
        <button type="submit" disabled={pending} className="bg-black text-white p-2 rounded">
            {pending ? "Creating Account... ⏳" : "Sign Up"}
        </button>
    );
}
export default function RegisterForm() {
    const [state, formAction] = useFormState(registerUser, {} as FormState);
return (
        <form action={formAction} className="flex flex-col gap-4 max-w-sm">
            <input name="email" placeholder="Email" className="border p-2" />
            {state.errors?.email && <p className="text-red-500">{state.errors.email[0]}</p>}
<input name="password" type="password" placeholder="Password" className="border p-2" />
            {state.errors?.password && <p className="text-red-500">{state.errors.password[0]}</p>}
<SubmitButton />
            {state.message && <p className="text-green-600">{state.message}</p>}
        </form>
    );
}
```

---

### 3. Master Comparison Matrix

| Hook | Placed In | Primary Return Values |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| **`useFormState` (useActionState)** | Form Component | `[state, formAction, isPending]` |
| **`useFormStatus`** | **Must be INSIDE a `<form>` child component** | `{ pending, data, method, action }` |

---

### 4. Interview Ke 3 Sawal Is Topic Se

1. **`useFormStatus` hook direct `<form>` component ke andar kyu kaam nahi karta?** -> Kyunki `useFormStatus` React Context consume karta hai jo parent `<form>` provider provide karta hai; isliye use form ke child component me call karna padta hai.
2. **React 19 me `useFormState` ka naya replacement kya hai?** -> `useActionState` hook.
3. **Form reset karne ka best practice pattern kya hota hai?** -> Form element par `formRef.current?.reset()` call karna ya state change par key prop change karna.
