# 01. Next.js 14+ Evolution: Pages Router vs App Router Architecture

### 1. The Paradigm Shift: Pages Router vs App Router 🚀

* **Pages Router (`/pages`):** Client-centric architecture jisme `getServerSideProps` aur `getStaticProps` ke zariye poora data page level par fetch hota tha; har component client bundle me ship hota tha (Heavy JavaScript payload!).
* **App Router (`/app`):** React Server Components (RSC) architecture par built; components by default **0KB Client JavaScript** ke sath server par execute hote hain!

```
┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│                 PAGES ROUTER vs APP ROUTER                  │
├──────────────────────────────┬──────────────────────────────┤
│ Pages Router (/pages)        │ App Router (/app)            │
├──────────────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────┤
│ Page-level Data Fetching     │ Component-level Async RSC    │
│ getServerSideProps / getStaticProps │ Direct `await db.query()` in JSX│
│ Whole Page Hydration         │ Streaming & Selective Hydration│
│ Heavy Client JS Bundles      │ **0 KB JS for Server Components**│
└──────────────────────────────┴──────────────────────────────┘
```

### 2. Direct Async Data Fetching in Server Components

```tsx
// app/products/page.tsx (React Server Component by Default!)
import { db } from "@/lib/db";
export default async function ProductsPage() {
    // ⚡ Direct Database / ORM Call without REST API boilerplate!
    const products = await db.products.findMany({ where: { active: true } });
return (
        <main className="p-8">
            <h1 className="text-2xl font-bold">Catalog ({products.length})</h1>
            <div className="grid grid-cols-3 gap-4">
                {products.map(p => (
                    <div key={p.id} className="border p-4 rounded shadow">
                        <h3>{p.title}</h3>
                        <p className="text-green-600 font-bold">₹{p.price}</p>
                    </div>
                ))}
            </div>
        </main>
    );
}
```

### 3. Master Comparison Matrix

### 4. Interview Ke 3 Sawal Is Topic Se

1. **App Router me `getServerSideProps` aur `getStaticProps` kyu hata diye gaye?** -> Kyunki App Router me har React Server Component natively `async/await` support karta hai aur fetch caching options (`fetch(url, { cache: 'force-cache' })`) ke zariye SSG/SSR decide hota hai.
2. **Server Component ka JavaScript code client browser ke console/sources me dikhta hai kya?** -> Bilkul nahi! Server Components ka code server par render hokar lightweight React Server Component (RSC) Payload wire format me stream hota hai.
3. **Existing Pages Router project ko App Router me migrate kaise karte hain?** -> Next.js dono routers ko parallel co-exist karne deta hai; hum ek-ek page ko `/pages` se `/app` directory me incrementally migrate kar sakte hain.
