# 17. Moodle Universal Cache (MUC): Definition of Cache (db/caches.php), Redis & Memory Scaling

### 1. MUC Architecture & Cache Stores 💾

Moodle Universal Cache (MUC) multi-layer caching handle karta hai:
1. **Request Cache:** Single HTTP request lifecycle (Static PHP arrays).
2. **Session Cache:** User session lifecycle (Redis).
3. **Application Cache:** Multi-user shared system cache (Redis / Memcached / APCu).

---

### 2. Defining Cache in `db/caches.php`

```php
$definitions = [
    'course_analytics' => [
        'mode' => cache_store::MODE_APPLICATION,
        'simplekeys' => true,
        'simpledata' => false,
        'ttl' => 3600, // 1 Hour Cache
        'canuselocalstore' => true,
    ],
];
// Usage:
$cache = cache::make('local_boost', 'course_analytics');
$data = $cache->get($courseid);
if ($data === false) {
    $data = compute_heavy_analytics($courseid);
    $cache->set($courseid, $data);
}
```

### 3. Interview Ke 3 Sawal Is Topic Se

1. **Redis Cache Store MUC me NFS filesystem cache se fast kyu hai?** -> Direct in-memory TCP/Unix Socket lookup (0.1ms latency) vs slow network disk seek latency.
2. **Cache Invalidation MUC me data update hone par kaise trigger hoti hai?** -> Events observer me `$cache->delete($key)` ya `$cache->purge()` call karna.
3. **`canuselocalstore => true` multi-server clusters me kya advantage deta hai?** -> Clustered nodes ko shared network cache ke badle local server RAM/APCu use karne deta hai for read-heavy immutable definitions.
