### 1. The `_delta_log` Protocol (Single Source of Truth 📜)

Delta Lake table directory ke andar `_delta_log/` folder me atomic commits (`000000.json`, `000001.json`) append hote hain:
* Har 10 commits ke baad ek consolidated **Checkpoint Parquet file (`000010.checkpoint.parquet`)** banti hai taaki log reading instantaneous ho.

---

### 2. Time Travel & ACID Upserts in PySpark

```python
# 1. ACID Merge (Upsert / CDC):
from delta.tables import DeltaTable
delta_table = DeltaTable.forPath(spark, "s3://lakehouse/users")
delta_table.alias("target").merge(
    source_df.alias("source"),
    "target.user_id = source.user_id"
).whenMatchedUpdateAll().whenNotMatchedInsertAll().execute()
# 2. Time Travel Query (Look at data as of yesterday!):
df_yesterday = spark.read.format("delta").option("timestampAsOf", "2026-08-20").load("s3://lakehouse/users")
```

### 3. Interview Ke 3 Sawal Is Topic Se

1. **Schema Enforcement vs Schema Evolution me kya difference hai?** -> Schema Enforcement unexpected columns aane par write reject karta hai; Schema Evolution (`mergeSchema=True`) naye columns ko automatically table schema me safe append karta hai.
2. **`VACUUM` command Delta Lake me kya karti hai?** -> Purane snapshot Parquet files ko purge karke disk space reclaim karti hai (Default retention: 7 days).
3. **Z-Ordering (`OPTIMIZE users ZORDER BY (country, created_date)`) query performance 100x fast kaise karta hai?** -> Multi-dimensional space-filling curve use karke related data ko physically same Parquet file blocks me cluster karta hai (Enables data skipping).
